Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

wedding imageLast year, on this day, we got married. To the disappointment of some of our friends, we weren't married by Elvis in Vegas. But I hoped they had fun at our circus of a wedding, anyway. We sure did!

Many people have told me the first year is the hardest, the adjustments to each other's schedules, the shared space, etc. I haven't found it hard, but it is a big adjustment. I have changed my name to his, learned to cook (which I swore I never, never would), and to talk about issues, not nag (I hope). I'm not Mrs. Cleaver, I learned to cook, because I just got tired of eating out and I crave childhood favorites. Our apartment is messy (I married a slob), but it's ours and I find a lot of joy coming home to it, and sitting on a couch I picked out. And he has adjusted to me too: he washes the dishes, asks me if he should buy food after work and carries tissue with him (because my nose runs when I eat). You would think after 8 + years of dating that the adjustments are small, but I'm surprised at how much it takes to live together. My mother-in-law gave us a card with a clipping that said marriage is like a dance, and maybe it is, I like to think of it as a journey. (Big musings from a person that has only been married a year, I know).

Really, I just want to say, I'm happy. And come what may, I have a person who will weather all the good times and the bad with me.
