A Perfect Day

A perfect day for me would begin with sleeping in as much as possible, probably past 11AM, leisurely waking up, reading if I felt like it. Washing up and heading somewhere fun for lunch/brunch. Today we went to Tea and Sympathy, where I had the cream tea (scones with clotted cream and a pot of peach tea) and the Queen Victoria Spongecake (more clotted cream and jam). Hubby had chicken pot pie and some ginger beer (not real beer, more like really strong gingerale). The wait is always long, and the place is tiny, but ever since my friend Wen brought me there, I have loved it. There is something that feels like home about it. Then we roamed around Chelsea Market and bought groceries, like giddy newlyweds playing house. More importantly we bought Fat Witch Brownies and Ronnybrook milk to go along with it.

Hubby's perfect day would probably end with him watching Star Trek, eating some homemade pasta, and then following it up with a crazy movie, Kill Bill (check, check and check). I made some orecchiette with broccoli rabe, sausage and tomatoes. I modified the broccoletti stufati (braised broccoli) recipe from the Silver Spoon Cookbook. The hot sausage was fresh, so it really pulled the dish together. Now if only the weekend could be longer...that would indeed be perfect.

White Bread

I finally used our breadmaker today. We received 2 Cuisinart Convection Breadmakers for our wedding. I gave one to my sister, since she gave me an extra hotpot they received for their wedding. So after sending hubby to shop for the ingredients (I had an excuse, I have a bad cold!), tossing them into the breadmaker, and watching every 5 min in the lil' window in great anticipation, 3 hours later we had warm sweet yummy bread. We bought ingredients for lemon poppy bread, which takes less time to make, so that's probably our next adventure.

K is for Kaiser!

Sweater season (Winter) is almost over and I finally finished the sweater for Kaiser (my sister's active Jack Russell Terrier). The pattern is from Dogs in Knits: 17 Projects for Our Best Friends, which Jenna lent me. She made a beautiful white Aran sweater for her dog, Dashi from this book. I wish she had a knitting blog, she'd put my projects to shame. For this sweater, I used Sirdar's Snuggly in Lemon, double knitting weight. I love Snuggly because it's soft and machine washable. This project and the Marianne Cardigan have really made me a pro at picking up stitches. This sweater was started in January, but I got halfway through and needed to order more yarn, then got sick, then decided that I wanted to watch more tv. And when a project is 90% done I get knitter's block (for weeks). Probably because I really, really hate making up (blocking, sewing in ends, sewing...). That should explain why the Charley Sweater is still not finished, yeah...

I snuck out to Purl SoHo during all the Chinese New Year festivities and bought a whole bunch of stuff. Very importantly I replaced my size 1 bamboo needles that I broke, so now I can continue my Print O' the Wave Stole. I also couldn't resist the Rowan magazine. I love their patterns, and I love knitting with their Kidsilk Haze yarn. The yarn pictured here is for super secret projects.
