Space Invaders!

space invadersI started working on the Space Invader Socks for Hubby. He's a big fan of this retro videogame. When I saw this pattern on Knitty.com, I just had to make them. They're being knit in the round on size 2 double pointed needles in Louet Gems Pearl Black and Cream. I like this yarn, because it's machine washable merino wool. Plus you can't see, but the yarn has a luster that really shows off the stitches. At first I had a lot of trouble with the color knitting, but I'm really getting the hang of the two-fisted fair isle taught in the Stitch 'n Bitch handbook. I feel so productive, working with both hands: left, right, left, right. I skipped the 2 color ribbing on top, I can't purl in color knitting too well it seems. After starting over twice, I just decided to only do color work in stockinette.

currycurry
Speaking of things hubby likes, we kept seeing the same strange curry ads on NHK where this mom makes curry and the kids and the husband run home to eat it! Hubby always laughs at the commercial because the husband looks so bizarre (think orange hair). We finally bought the House Kokumaro curry and I made it last night with beef, carrots, onions and potatoes. They have very easy instructions in the back. Hubby and I thought it was delicious. He had 3 servings. We also bought S&B Golden Curry (also a Japanese brand), so I'll have to report how it compares to this. He is of course hinting for me to make breaded pork cutlets for the curry (with panko), but I don't know if my skill level is high enough for that. We'll see.

harry potterNow for something I like. I bought the first Harry Potter book when the craze hit America. I read and lost the book a while ago. I have always wanted to buy the rest. So, when there was a Scholastic sale, I knew I had to buy the 6 book set and the latest hardcover. It especially felt good, when the books were priced below Amazon.com's. I'm now on book 1 again, trying to remember what it was. I'll be done soon. I'm a speed reader, so I have to intentionally slow myself down when reading things I enjoy. I haven't seen the latest Potter movie, I always wait for it to come on in HBO on Demand.
